Frequently Asked Questions Print E-mail

1.  How will my child benefit from joining one of your programs?  There are many benefits to environmental education and outdoor environmental education in particular:

*  Improves social & personal skills
*  Better performance in school
*  Fosters discipline
*  Builds leadership qualities
*  Enhances workplace skills upon adulthood
*  Empowers kids to find solutions to real life issues
*  Encourages out-of-the-box play and problem solving
*  Fosters team-building and cooperative learning

Plus it is fun of course!  Read this article which shows empirical feedback surrounding the benefits of environmental education. Whilst the research were based on studies in the USA, there are many parallels to how children in the Philippines can benefit from environmental education - especially in schools and play centres who adopt environmental education as a core principle.

2.  What ages do you take out for your children's programs?  We have experience taking out children between the ages of 2 and 12.

3.  What sort of adventure activities do you do? Our activities depend on the location and the resources available.  In the past we have climbed ropes, went orienteering, conducted adventure treasure hunts, rappeled off Kids Ahoy's balcony and completed a zipline.

4.  What sort of environmental education activities do you do?  Our activities are tailored according to the program and theme.  The activities are always suitable for an outdoor classroom, and usually include games, storytelling and songs, as well as empowering messages.  For our nature trips, they also include mini-hikes and an adventure component.

5.  How much do you charge?  It really depends on the program and the number of participants.  We do offer discounts for volume.  Our rates are value for money given they include full facilitation by skilled professionals, structured play, nature bonding, parent-child bonding (if applicable) and an adventure component (if applicable).

6.  What is a social enterprise?  A social enterprise is an organisation where an environmental or social purpose is central to what they do.  Rather than maximising shareholder value, their main aim is to generate profit to further their social and environmental goals.

In Barefootprint's case, protection of the environment as well as personal development are central to our organisation.

7.  Are you for-profit?  Yes, we are for profit, but not driven by profit.  We follow a quadruple-bottom line, and thus are driven by environmental, cultural and social results as well as financial.
